The phenomenon known as UFO or Unidentified Flying Object, appears to have started in the 1940's. In actuality it is something that has been around since first recorded history, and possibly even earlier than that. The term UFO is one that has brought ridicule to anyone who has used it. Many mainstream media outlets use it as tongue in cheek and have treated the term as a joke, and rarely take it seriously. The term "UFO" was first suggested in 1952 by Cpt. Edward J. Ruppelt, who headed Project Blue Book, the USAF's official investigation of UFOs.
Because the term UFO is ambiguous, referring either to any unidentified sighting, or in popular usage to alien spacecraft, and the public and media ridicule sometimes associated with the topic, some investigators now prefer to use other terms such as unidentified aerial phenomenon (or UAP).
The following is a list of some well known events that have occurred and been recorded. You the readers are encouraged to go through them and view the documents and videos, and consider them. Some you may know, and others you may not, but all are worth looking at. If there is an event you would like to see added, please suggest it with date and location.
After year 2000 the waters become muddy with the advent of technology to fake sightings and videos. Which is something we see much of, and takes hours and hours to sift through to find what is real and what is not. However that does not mean anything should be discounted. It is to the delight of the powers that be that this occurs, disinformation working for them for free.
The well known events.
October 11, 1492 Christopher Columbus UFO sighting. Christopher Columbus and Pedro Gutierrez while on the deck of the Santa Maira, observed, "a light glimmering at a great distance." It vanished and reappeared several times during the night, moving up and down, "in sudden and passing gleams." It was sighted 4 hours before land was sighted, and taken by Columbus as a sign they would soon come to land.

August 12, 1883 Jos? Bonilla reported that he saw more than 300 dark, unidentified objects crossing before the sun while observing sunspot activity at Zacatecas Observatory in Mexico.

October 24, 1886 US consul of Venezuela in Maracaibo reported the sighting of a UFO. A bright object, accompanied with a humming noise, appeared during thunderstorm over a hut near Maracaibo. Afterward, the people in the hut displayed symptoms similar to radiation poisoning. Nine days later the trees surrounding the hut withered and died.

April 17, 1897 Aurora, Texas In the April 19, 1897 edition of the Dallas Morning News. Written by Aurora resident S.E. Haydon[2], the alleged UFO is said to have hit a windmill on the property of a Judge J.S. Proctor. The occupant did not survive the crash and was said to be "not of this world".

June 30, 1908 Tunguska event in Russia. A number of theories based on UFOs have claimed that the Tunguska event was the result of the activities of extraterrestrial beings, including an exploding alien spaceship or even an alien weapon going off to "save the Earth from an imminent threat".

October 13, 1917 Miracle of the Sun at Fatima Portugal. According to many witness statements, after a downfall of rain, the dark clouds broke and the sun appeared as an opaque, spinning disc in the sky. It was said to be significantly duller than normal, and to cast multicolored lights across the landscape, the shadows on the landscape, the people, and the surrounding clouds. The sun was then reported to have careened towards the earth in a zigzag pattern.

February 24, 1942 The Battle of LA also known as The Great Los Angeles Air Raid, is the name given by contemporary sources to the rumored enemy attack and subsequent anti-aircraft artillery barrage which took place from late February 24 to early February 25, 1942 over Los Angeles, California. At 3:16 a.m. the 37th Coast Artillery Brigade began firing 12.8-pound anti-aircraft shells into the air at reported aircraft; over 1,400 shells would eventually be fired.

June 21, 1947 The Maury Island UFO Mystery is a complex case spanning several months in the summer of 1947 in the Puget Sound area of Washington State. The mystery occurred two weeks before Roswell and first involved UFOs seen over Maury Island, followed by the famous Kenneth Arnold sighting of UFOs over Mt. Rainier and ended with the tragic crash of a B-25 Bomber and the deaths of two military intelligence officers.

March 5, 1967 Air Defense Command radar tracked an unidentified target descending over the Minuteman missile silos of the 91st Strategic Missile Wing at Minot AFB, ND. September 19, 1976 Tehran UFO Incident was a radar and visual sighting of an unidentified flying object (UFO) over Tehran, the capital of Iran, during the early morning hours of 19 September 1976. December 21, 1978 Kaikoura lights New Zealand. The first sightings were made on 21 December when the crew of a Safe Air Ltd cargo aircraft began observing a series of strange lights around their Armstrong Whitworth AW.660 Argosy aircraft, which tracked along with their aircraft for several minutes before disappearing and then reappearing elsewhere.

August 27, 1979 Val Johnson incident. Johnson reported that while he was on patrol near Stephen, Minnesota about 2 AM on August 27, 1979 he saw a beam of light just above the road. According to Johnson, the beam sped towards him, his squad car was engulfed in light, and he heard glass breaking. Johnson said he was unconscious for 39 minutes and when he awoke he realized his wristwatch and the vehicle's clock had stopped for 14 minutes.

December 26, 1980 The Rendlesham Forest Incident is comparable to the Roswell incident. Craft or multiple craft are said to have landed in the forest just outside RAF Woodbridge, which at the time was used by the U.S. Air Force.

The Cash-Landrum Incident was a reported Unidentified Flying Object sighting from the United States in 1980, which the witnesses insist was responsible for damage to their health. It vanished and reappeared several times during the night, moving up and down, "in sudden and passing gleams." It was sighted 4 hours before land was sighted, and taken by Columbus as a sign they would soon come to land.

September 19, 1976 Tehran UFO Incident was a radar and visual sighting of an unidentified flying object (UFO) over Tehran, the capital of Iran, during the early morning hours of 19 September 1976. The incident is particularly notable for the electromagnetic interference effects observed upon aircraft coming within close proximity to the object: two F-4 Phantom II jet interceptors independently lost instrumentation and communications as they approached, only to have them restored upon withdrawal; one of the aircraft suffered temporary weapons systems failure, while preparing to open fire.

August 27, 1979 Val Johnson incident. Johnson reported that while he was on patrol near Stephen, Minnesota about 2 AM on August 27, 1979 he saw a beam of light just above the road. According to Johnson, the beam sped towards him, his squad car was engulfed in light, and he heard glass breaking. Johnson said he was unconscious for 39 minutes and when he awoke he realized his wristwatch and the vehicle's clock had stopped for 14 minutes.

January 5, 2000 Southern Illinois UFO. Between 4:00 and 7:00 am, six people, including police officers, observed a large, triangular object a few hundred feet over St. Clair County. The object glided silently and slowly to the southwest over several villages before vanishing near the town of Dupo.
