Tokyo (CNN) -- About 80,000 residents have been ordered to flee and more than 1 million people were urged to evacuate Nagoya, a city in central Japan, Tuesday as a typhoon was expected to hit the area.

Despite the evacuation warnings, a little more than 60 people had evacuated the city by Tuesday afternoon, the city government said. More were expected to leave in the evening as the storm came closer.

Typhoon Roke was packing winds of 185 kph (115 mph) and was predicted to make landfall with heavy rain some time Wednesday, said CNN meteorologist Jennifer Delgado.

Both earthquakes and typhoons are fairly common occurrences in this region.

NUCLEAR DISASTERS ARE NOT.

Kinda makes one wonder, huh?

Its started to hammer hard, 1 hour from Tokyo, they are bracing themselves, 2 hrs from Fukushima and they have powered down the facility but are expecting flooding to occur and washing radioactive material into the water table.

Im sure I heard 1 million evacuated?

My thoughts are with them all...

The Japanese people are a stoical bunch, if anyone can take this continued disruption then my money would be on them.

Not all storms are man made.

I have read that sometimes Nature has to create a storm in order to move radioactive contaminants that are in the dust and air to a safer place where it will do less damage. It feels like this to me now.

This happened in Australia recently - and in fact some of the sand blowing out of the outback to the sea was tested as radioactive. It was the day that we woke up to the deep red skies of a massive dust storm in Sept 23rd, 2009.

I don't like the wording in the article "ordered to flee" which suggests panic, and I don't think we will see that.

Once again, I hope that this passes with the minimum loss and damage possible.
