Kentucky Senator Rand Paul is being detained by the TSA after a standoff incident with TSA officers In Nashville.
According to Paul?s communications director, the Senator was asked to walk through a full body scanner and set off an alarm ?on a glitch?.
The Paul staffer tweeted about the incident this morning, writing ?Just got a call from @senrandpaul. He?s currently being detained by TSA in Nashville.?
A spokesman for TSA has told ABC News that the agency was looking into the matter but could not immediately comment.
The Paul staffer told ABC News that TSA agents would not let the Senator walk back through the body scanner and demanded that Paul submit to a full body pat-down.
It has not yet been confirmed whether or not Paul declined to co-operate with the pat-down.
The Paul staffer said his office had been in contact with TSA head John Pistole regarding the incident.
Rand Paul, and his father GOP presidential candidate Ron Paul have been ardent critics of the TSA and the heavy handed security tactics the agency employs within the nations airports and beyond.
More to follow when details emerge.

I think he was absolutely correct in this statement below.
Ron Paul -
“The police state in this country is growing out of control,” Paul wrote in a statement provided to The Daily Caller. “One of the ultimate embodiments of this is the TSA that gropes and grabs our kids and our seniors and does nothing to keep us safe.”

Yes, because they had NO IDEA who Rand Paul, was right?
Then they quote that:

"Passengers who refuse to complete the screening process cannot be granted access to the secure area in order to ensure the safety of others traveling," TSA said in a statement on the incident, according to ABC.
Really? So if Obama (post Presidency) refuses a pat down, are you going to detain him too? Didn't think so...

yep they are excluded from it...
The U.S. Constitution actually protects federal lawmakers from detention while they?re on the way to the capital. ?The Senators and Representatives?shall in all Cases, except Treason, Felony and Breach of the Peace, be privileged from Arrest during their Attendance at the Session of their respective Houses, and in going to and returning from the same?.? according to Article I, Section 6.

I wonder if this incident might have been planned to gain even just the slightest bit of coverage to Ron Paul's issues, besides being a demonstration of non-compliance?

That's always possible.
It's also possible that someone didn't want him voting on something.
Either way, detaining him for anything other than what Charles specified is a violation of Federal Law. He was on his way back to DC to vote. Someone fecked up BIG TIME.

Is there anything wrong with it if it was .. i don't fly ..but when i leave the country later this year and if i need a pat down i think i will ask for the female tsa employees to pat be down ..even if they are ugly..
Oddly enough i think it is considered sexual harrasment for male tsa employees to offer to give female tsa officers pat down.. i think one actually claim it was a threat of sexual assault .. personal i think they should go through it every day.. see how it feels ..
no that i am pro vilence to women.. but if a patdown like that is not really a violattion ..then they should be fine with it ..but seeing 3 year olds get patted down ..old ladies colestemy bags get checked ..and several other things i have seen reported ..with the threat of them moving this stuff to other forms of transit ..

...Or a demonstration of "we are treated just the same as you." What a joke. Sensationalism at its best.

Rand Paul tells his story to Hannity. He says he would rather have background checks targeting international travellers than pat downs.

Not particularly. Pretty good way to gain a little media time. Hell, even MSNBC covered it, I nearly fell out of my chair.

The thing is, he continues to perpetuate the myth that we were attacked by evil al-ciada from the Middle East. He completely misses the point of what is wrong with the TSA taking over. He has no problem being put into a radiation bather or taking his shoes and belt off, etc.
I can't get behind him or his father 100% because of their willful ignorance about 9/11.

He also misses the point on "who Washington is," methinks.:walkingdog:
I thought is was interesting that he said Ron Paul probably wouldn't run a third party ticket though, if he does not win the nomination.

my point about Rand Paul's reaction to this is made well in this article:
Rand Paul's Stand Against the TSA
Ron Paul’s staunch stance against totalitarianism contrasts — unfavorably — with Sen. Paul’s measured response. Disappointingly, his aforementioned column in the Washington Times doesn’t advocate the TSA’s abolition; instead, he promises, “I will be proposing legislation that will allow for adults to be rescreened if they so choose.”
What?
He continues, “…passengers who do everything right, remove their belts, remove their wallets, remove their shoes, their glasses and all of the contents in their pockets are then subjected to random patdowns and tricked into believing that the scanners actually detected something. .. [This] add[s] to the indignity of travel. Those passengers who suffer through the process of partially disrobing should be rewarded with less invasive examination.”
Au contraire: they should never have been “subjected” to any of these insults in the first place. There is no reforming tyranny: we can only abolish it.
Alas, it gets worse: “If a federally funded TSA is going to exist,” the Senator adds, “then its focus should be on police work and it must respect the rights of citizens.” Yes, and if the Federal Reserve is going to exist, it should benefit the people, not the financial elite. Come on. Nor had he finished: Sen. Paul opined in another interview, “I’m not against the rules. I just think they need to have common sense.” Rand: this is the federal government we’re dealing with. Its lackeys wouldn’t recognize common sense if Thomas Paine himself smacked them with it upside the head.
