As we look at our roles in our community , there are so many new perspectives and with that comes new "language"

Not all of us have the same perspectives on words..

So I am curious to know your definition of these.. "buzz" words.

Netizen: Someone who spends enough time online in community oriented sites and can be considered a citizen of the Net.

Alternative Media: The NEWS, repackaged by mostly unqualified individuals for a large group of people who have lost faith in MSM and their government

Forum: a place of discussion, debate and networking

Moderator: A essential job in a forum community and one that, when done right, reflects on the forum and its direction as well as its feel.

Disclosure: The public release of previously unreleased information

Super Soldier: Claude Van Damne

WhistleBlower: A referee in a hockey game and/or someone who releases valuable and hidden information only to pay a price for it later. (Real whistleblowers don't hang around for 5 years blogging about it by the way.)

Alt Media Guru: misnomer. a guru is a spiritual teacher, the type of individual referred to here is a pusher, peddling mixtures of truth and lies for profit.

White/Black Hat: see Spy vs spy

Truth seeker/speaker: Mythical creature with no basis in reality. Truth is undefined and will forever remain so. Truth is personal and what is true for one may not be for another.

Not bad - probably also someone who has established a recognizable online identity.

Netizen: a gathering of good energy - where the sum of all the parts is greater than if the parts stood alone,
someone who brings significant energy good energy to the group that makes up netizen

Alternative Media: anything, that is NOT mainstream

Forum: an online web based gathering spot, for people to share their knowledge, & their opinions (which may or may NOT be real truth)

Moderator: a person, who ideally keeps 'threads' on 'the forum' on topic, who allows people to get out their knowledge, but, moderates / or steps in when necessary to censor/edit/or slightly modify things, that would be harmful to others, and/or is NOT kind, or thoughtful, or NOT necessary,
so, they moderate things - or, keep things more balanced

Disclosure: someone disclosing/or stating facts, that previously were NOT known - (full disclosure) - telling all, leaving NOTHING out, or, no stones unturned

Super Soldier: (no comment) - personally, i think a lot of these types of people - are legends only, in their own minds

WhistleBlower: (if telling the truth) - someone who blows the whistle - or, tells all

Alt Media Guru: rofl - just can't wrap my head around, the word - guru

White/Black Hat: sounds like words for spies - and, very likely those who say they are white hats, are really black hats - and, vice versa

truth is - just that, the truth

Truth seeker is some who is seeking to discover things, and, sort them into categories 1) false 2) merits further exploration 3) feels/i think this is right ~ however, this would also be hinged to their own rafts of knowledge, either self attained, or, attained through exchanges with others

truth speaker: someone who might think they know things are truthful
- however, it would be hinged to their own rafts of knowledge, either self attained, or attained through the exchanges with others

as more truth is discovered, a truth seeker / or truth speaker, would become better armed with truth,
as more lies are discovered, a truth seeker / or truth speaker, would be able to discard false facts, in favour of becoming better armed with 'real' truth

Netizen: A person that feels online communities are just as valid/important/real as their physical/local community and acts accordingly.

Alternative Media: Still the media but focussing on topics that the mainstream either won't go near, or only go near in a non-serious way.

Forum: A place for conversation and the free exchange of ideas.

Moderator: The poor sods that have to try and maintain the local laws in the lawless wilds of t'internet.

Disclosure: The official release of information previously denied by official bodies.

Super Soldier: Dellusional attention seeker taking advantage of our open hearts and minds whilst making serious issues look stupid.

WhistleBlower: A genuine insider that has a crisis of conscience and speaks out, offering information unavailable to those outside the system they've been working in.

Alt Media Guru: Narcissistic wankers who noone in wider society will give any attention to so exploit us instead. Not to be confused with a Teacher or Researcher.

White/Black Hat: Pointless labels that are based in the old dualistic mode of thinking.

Truth seeker/speaker: Someone that just wants to understand the world we live in and follow the evidence wherever it leads.

I agree pretty much with what Richard perceives as the key definitions EXCEPT what he says about 'truth' - I do not believe 'truth' is relative and something that is different for each person. Rather I see that the fact that there appears to be differences between people's perceptions of what constitutes 'truth' now is merely a reflection of our lack of development at this time and difficulties arising from language barriers and cultural 'differences.' Remember the Tower of Babel story? IF - and it IS possible to envision such a state - people existed on a slightly higher plane where lying was not possible and through intuitive knowledge people could transcend differences imposed by language, syntaxt and culture ----- there would be access to the one Truth that exists.

Sadly we just ain't there yet. Just sayin'.

Sometimes, the more light one shines to try to define something in more detail, the more shadows that are cast.


Netizen: As described in most responses, all inclusive and in addition another defining couplet being...
Someone who stands to learn a lot about themselves and others and with an outside chance to understand how to put this learning into practice, ..or maybe equally, someone who stands the chance to become desensitised to their world in new and interesting ways.

Alternative Media: A double speak term perhaps, that once referred to unregulated independent information providers.

Forum: A terminal which people visit during their journey. A travel log which collects raw data and either makes a bigger picture then and there, or is held until the appropriate time.

Moderator: A selected person, who is charged with the responsibility of tying up loose ends with finesse.

Disclosure: Opening. Un-closing :-P

Super Soldier: An infatuation held by war mongers.

WhistleBlower: A holder of unspoken information whom speaks it.

Alt Media Guru: A long serving or prolific purveyor of media which is off beat. :-P

White/Black Hat: A description for a possible pair of real groups of organised or disorganised people with power.
This could also refer to the subconscious sway of the soul, meaning such clubs are joined unknowingly and are merely a description for ones moral fibre.

Truth seeker/speaker: A seeker and a speaker are polar opposites at times. Vaguely then, one who understands that truth is stranger than fiction and is prepared to be still and watch.
