Ken Robinson says schools kill creativity

Sir Ken Robinson makes an entertaining and profoundly moving case for creating an education system that nurtures (rather than undermines) creativity.

Creativity expert Sir Ken Robinson challenges the way we're educating our children. He champions a radical rethink of our school systems, to cultivate creativity and acknowledge multiple types of intelligence.

I agree. The Waldorf school systems have the best emphasis on creativity that I've seen. They're found that kids who've gone thru their system think much more creatively throughout school, and especially when they reach high school. I wish some of those methods could be used by public schools.

the schools are design to produce compliant workers .. who obey authority ..

we really can't design a new education system until we admit the same system does not work for every child ..

the current modle was built of the prussian system which was made to fail much of those who went in it.. so the failures became foot soldiers and the successful became the officers ..

education has nothing to do with providing those who go through it with knowlege.. it is all about personality modification ..

I think some Waldorf Schools are excellent and some are resting on their laurels. We did not have a good 3 years at the local one and went on to homeshool. I actually think that's why we went there - to get the confidence to homeschool. But I too wish some of the methods could be used to educate the teachers within the public system. The building blocks provided by Steiner and subsequent work done by leading Waldorf education teachers and writers is SO far ahead of any teacher's college curriculum.

Until then though, homeschooling is the best solution imo.

The increase in cases of autism ..in youth ..weather it is do to better diagnosis.. for the natural cases .. or thymerisol poisoning from vacinees ..follow by the increase in the verity of other disorders .. genetic or do to all the crap in our food .. is going to be one of the thing that collapses the system..as well as kids just walking out of scholls in masse because they understand they are not getting educated ..

why is the classroom.. the one place that can be greatly improved from modern tech .. the only place where it is ok to do things the same way we did it 50 years ago.. with the same god #$%4 freaking damn books that where used 50 years ago ..

Hi Twin cans. ;-) Sorry to hear of your bad experience at the local Waldorf schl. You're right, it all depends on the teachers. The system is the best tho if understood and used well. Funny, speaking of Waldorf, I just had a deam of my old professor from the Waldorf Inst. (He's in my book. I share some of the revealing classes of his in the book. He was clairvoyant, and his classes were mind-blowing.) We were sitting at a table in a Waldorf meeting in the dream. And then out of the blue this morning some old Waldorf friends called & we spent 45 minutes on the phone. We'll get together. Guess I'm meant to get back into those circles. ;-)
