    Nexus Artist's Gallery

I was just thinking that it would be nice to have a thread for posting our artwork. A charming, sort of Midieval-looking small frame that I saw & bought today is inspiring/prompting me to get back into artwork. I'm going to start with this very small one. It would be fun if we sort of had a "Nexus Art Studio". It could be a great incentive to be creative.

    Just a thought!

    Re: Nexus Artist's Gallery

Oh my goodness! We've even had our Gallery's Champagne Grand Opening! Thank you Flower!
And thank you for the lovely flowers -- some of Nature's lovely Artwork in celebration also! LOVE IT! And great to hear from you also Fognoggin!

Yippee! I've finally got something to push my butt into creating art again! If only you could see my drawers and drawers of THOUSANDS of the BEST Artist & also oil colored pencils. Not to mention all my watercolors, oils & acrylics, mediums etc. etc. etc. I'll get to work! Starting today!

Meanwhile here's my Sacred Space painting to start this off with. It's a 42" x 30" oil on canvas that I created for the cover of my book. I put the temple in the corner to represent Sacred Spaces on Earth. I used photos from the wonderful NASA Picture of the Day site as ispiration for the rest. Upper rt. is the Eagle Nebula. It really has a face in it if viewed from the right angle, but I exaggerated the face here. Off the tower is Andromeda, and the pink one is the Horsehead Nebula. These are pretty much exactly how they look.1aSacredSpaceAAMed.jpg

    Re: Nexus Artist's Gallery

Thanks Flower! This is the Horsehead Nebula, and it's exactly how it looks. Here are some links to those NASA photos. It's one of my favorite sites. I LOVE those AMAZING images! I must have been an astronomer in a previous life. Or maybe a little alien Indiana Jones, buzzin' around exploring the galaxies.

    Horsehead nebula http://apod.nasa.gov/apod/ap050321.html

Eagle Nebula, upper rt. in my painting. http://apod.nasa.gov/apod/ap120416.html The image I used was upside down from this NASA image here. If you turn this upside down, you can see a face on the rt. side. But I used a huge "Cosmos" book where the image was taken further out so you could SO CLEARLY see the face, but I exaggerated it in the painting.

The "fairy" in the Eagle nebula http://apod.nasa.gov/apod/ap080227.html This one's interesting. It's not in my painting, but this "Fairy" stepping out in the cosmos is a fun image.

Ok. Hopefully we'll get more art "to hang on our Gallery walls" ! Otherwise I'll feel embarassed & want to delete the thread if I'm the only one. Seeking all Nexian artists!

I'm no artist but my daughter is pretty talented...i was going to post some of it yesterday but then realized i didn't have any on my computer anymore...it's on one of my other devices...but i'll get it later...i liked your picture...incidentally my daughter had a movie production video take 2nd place in the state of texas last year in 5th grade. One place away from the nationals where only 1 in 20,000 entries get to compete. so close, yet so far...

erm I wouldn't exactly call myself an artist, since I so rarely dabble. But this is possibly most recent and previously only viewed by a handful of people irl. Good/Bad feedback welcome.

hmm it would help if I figured out how to attach things.

HI Fognoggin! THANK YOU! I'm not feeling so awkward as having been the only one who's posted Art now!

I LIKE this! very nice shading, and the lines seem difinite and show alot of character. I like the sort of 'feathering' around the arrows too!
    Thank you!!

    Re: Nexus Artist's Gallery

Ok, this is a big deal! I FINALLY got to and FINISHED this artwork! Small as it is, it's a Big Deal because I've had this "artist's block" for so long. THis is my first try at using pastels, from my extensive collection of pastels which til now have remained in new condition. I used the pastel pencils (tho I have lots of the sticks also).

I created this thread to help push me back into Art. But I guess it was meant that I find the strength pretty much on my own, with a little help from Flower's lovely Art of Nature and Fognoggin's very nice Artwork. I really REALLY like your Artwork, by the way Fognoggin! Shows a lot of expressive creativity!

Ok, here's my little pastel painting. I'll be doing a series of "Sacred Space" pieces. Oh! And this one features the Pleaides, which you can see here. The link below takes you to the image I used in creating this. And actually, scroll down to see this painting in its true colors. The flash bleached it out here.

    Hi Kristen,

Very nice and appealing to the eye and heart. I'm no art connoisseur but can say I get a sense of peace and calm looking at the evening and then a sense of curiosity when looking at the pyramids. Intriguing emotions

    Re: Nexus Artist's Gallery

This may seem silly, but color is SO IMPORTANT to an artist. That first image above was too bleached out by the flash. Had to put up this one that more closely matches the true colors. It's more accurate in conveying the sense of dramatic mystery that the artwork really has. So please for give me for posting this image again.

Thanks for posting your art everyone. I love your star paintings, Kristenann. I have done a few star paintings myself, and had a vivid dream once of painting star paintings in the future.....

ps--I tried to edit this to remove picture (got shy) and it won't go away! So anyway, this is my last painting --the model is one of my daughters........

i feel your frustration ....i meant to upload one of mine but how could i when they are done to look what they do against the white or light grey background - i do no frames... and here you have all sorts of background themes which would make it a real mess...it just wouldn't look itself and you can't order people which background to use to view......

p.s. if you go advanced, then 'manage attachments' you'll work out how to take down..

    Hi guys

The painting is acrylic on canvas, 18 x 24. I use acrylic like watercolor and paint flat (horizontal). And thanks!

Lightblue, I'd love to see some of your work as well

    Re: Nexus Artist's Gallery

I'm excited to say that I FINISHED my latest painting! And on this "auspicious day" of 11/11/12 too. ;-) The frame measures 25 x 13.5 inches, and the painting is in the "Sacred Space" series, tho I haven't decided its title yet. It's devoted to the center, Khafre, pyramid which holds ancient secrets. As it turns out it's by far the oldest of the 3 Giza pyramids, and is the one that the Sphinx and Sphinx temple line up with.

This is not yet a professional photo. Just with my camera. The upper nebula is inspired by http://apod.nasa.gov/apod/ap100403.html. These are images from the NASA picture of the day site.
The 3 stars below the spiral galaxy are the Belt of Orion, which the Giza pyramids point toward. http://apod.nasa.gov/apod/ap110121.html
