    Chico's beard

A mild mannered poll for a facial disgrace.

    Re: Chico's beard

The graces of creation allows us Men (and some Woman) to have facial hair....at such a time when creation set forth, razors were not part of the mandate...only the expectation and judgment of man/woman themselves, decided that a Mans face should be shaved...in many cultures.

I have had beards on and off..love em, grow hard and long I say!

    Love the beard Chico!

    Re: Chico's beard

This thread sure does tickle me! Let me give some history so you will understand why.

For the first 51 years of my life, I never had a beard -- ever! I was a product of my environment, and shaving was an expected part of that environment. I shaved every morning like the obedient, brainwashed prole that I was. It was an ingrained habit, done without thinking, as so many things were.

On March 14, 2006, I got a little bit off while practicing a trampoline routine one night at the gym and came down with one foot on the tramp bed and one off on the protective mat. I knew where I was in the air before my touchdown and didn't expect any problem. In fact, I thought I could catch this one with reasonable skill. I miscalculated. My left foot on the mat rolled under, and I was in breathtaking and extreme pain immediately. Having never broken a bone, I thought "so this is what it's like to break a bone." My ankle was softball size in a matter of minutes. My mates carried me out to a car and drove me to the emergency room. X-rays showed no broken bones, but the doctor said there was so much soft tissue damage that I would require surgery. He gave me some powerful pain killers (which I never took), and I went home to spend a sleepless night due to the excruciating pain.

For the next 10 days, I could hardly get around. Getting to the bathroom was a major challenge, so shaving was out of the question. That's when the beard started. I thought about it a lot, and I realized that this was the way I was supposed to be -- with hair on my face. I was supposed to have a beard! But Hollywood had shown me that the clean-shaven guy always gets the girl! To Hell with that, I thought. I've been divorced for six years, and I'm not getting any women anyway, so from now on, I'm going to have a beard. I'm never shaving again. And I never did and don't ever plan to.

I never did go back to the doctor. My leg muscles were visibly atrophied after 10 days, and I knew I had to do something. I hopped outside to see if I might be able to ride my bike without severe pain, because I sure couldn't walk. I was in luck, so I decided my therapy would be the bike. I worked my way up from short distances to 10 miles a day within a month. I went back to the gym after a while and did some baby bounces on tramp as well, slowly jumping higher and higher over a period of months until I was jumping at my normal height. It took a few years, but my ankle is now back to 100%, having never seen the surgeon's knife.

And I also have the beard.

    Speaking of Beards:

    Longest Female beard known:

    beard.JPG

With the longest hair in her beard measuring 11 inches - 27.9 cm., Vivian Wheeler of Illinois is blessed with having the longest beard for a female.

Her father insisted she start shaving at the age of 7, but since 1993 Vivian Wheeler has not, letting her beard grow.

    Some more woolly wonders:

Plaiyig Krystic, since this thread won't have the honour of his posting I am sure:

"another thread on menial things that has already 9 posts on. How could you be, Nexus community, so unaware of what is going on in the world in preparation for ascension? 9 posts on Chico's beard! I am dreaming."

As for me, I do not care is Chico has a beard, no beard, wears sandals or not, pants or dress! lol
    Chico will remain Chico anyhow.

    Re: Chico's beard

I think Chico should keep his beard, of course, but change his avatar. Seeing other photos of him lets me know that he has a kind face. His avatar looks as if he is doing an impersonation of Robert DeNiro in Taxi Driver..... "Whatayou lookin' at me?"

    You know, kinda like a..............sociopath.

That's about as close to sociopath as I get. For those that haven't heard the story, that photo was snapped by my teenage son. He elected to interrupt me while I was playing a timed game of blitz chess. I was losing and rapidly running out of time. All I could do is give him my most annoyed look, which he recorded for posterity. I decided to use it as my avatar to constantly remind me that much of what we do is only a game, and I should not take it out on those close to me.

I do remember that story. It was in the way of the humor I may have desperately reached for.
