3- Control pond algae. One tablespoon per 1,000 gallons adds enough potassiumm to strengthen other aquatic plants that compete with algae, slowing its growth,

4- Pump up tomatoes. For the calcium-loving plants, place 1/4 cup right in the hole when planting

5- Make soap. Soaking ashes in water makes lye, which can be mixed with animal fat and then boiled to produce soap. Salt makes it harden as it cools.
I burn about five cords of wood per winter and I sprinkle the ashes around my property. I have slightly acidic well water so I poured ashes around the well head for some months. The strong alkalinity of the ashes finally started to exert some influence on the water and it sweetened.

I have one of these stoves and think it is excellent, light weight, compact, easy to use and you can feed it any small twigs to cook your meal or boil water.

    Re: How to do it

Have you seen a Swiss ranger volcano stove?
There only the size of a water bottle (and include a aluminium bottle for boiling)
    There only about $10USD.

I keep a small bottle of hand sanitizer with paper towels in my pack, put a little sanitizer on a paper towel in the bottom, with twigs on top.
    15 minutes later coffees ready.

    Re: How to do it

    G'day people,

I just want to remind everyone how handy it is to always carry a torch(flashlight for you mob across the pond), every member of the family should have a small led torch that they every day carry or (EDC) as it is commonly called.

Led is far more efficient on battery drainage and the torch you have should use commonly found batteries like AAA or AA or for more power lithium in AAA, AA or 123A.

I have quite a few ( used to collect torches) so have reviewed some of what is out there on the market that would be good to use in a shtf moment, since 50% of your life is spent in the dark it is a good investment and when an emergency situation strikes you would at least be able to see your way out of danger,(dark stair well, underground car park, power failure, etc).

This is a quick video of a torch thats been around for a while now for very good reason, its proven to do the job well and is tough, cheap to run and you can find batteries almost anywhere, even scav batteries out of other devices like telly remote controls if you have to just to keep you out of trouble.

There is tons of top quality torches on the market these days and it only takes a quick search on the computer to find one that would suit your needs better and maybe buy online closer to home( camping stores, survival stores,4 sevens.com, going gear.com.) places like this carry good quality equipment and most deliver to your door or mail box.

I will find more long running torches that would be more suited to shtf emergencies and post some for you to see but this is a good start and its proven itself over many years to be almost bullet proof.
