    Alone in the Wilderness (2005)

This is probably one of the best wilderness survival documentary’s ever made. The movie shows Richard Louis “Dick” Proenneke, a naturalist and survivalist living alone high in the mountains of Alaska at a place called Twin Lakes. Sadly it's only 1 hour long, apparently he filmed much more but most was lost due to deterioration of the movie reels. What is here is a real gem and a must for anyone that loves nature. Great narration too, enjoy.

"Alone in the Wilderness" is the story of Dick Proenneke. To live in a pristine land unchanged by man... to roam a wilderness through which few other humans have passed... to choose an idyllic site, cut trees and build a log cabin... to be a self-sufficient craftsman, making what is needed from materials available... to be not at odds with the world, but content with one's own thoughts and company... Thousands have had such dreams, but Dick Proenneke lived them. He found a place, built a cabin, and stayed to become part of the country. This video "Alone in the Wilderness" is a simple account of the day-to-day explorations and activities he carried out alone, and the constant chain of nature's events that kept him company.

    Thanks Rich,

Incredible skills, endurance and outstanding work ethic.

His hinge making, brilliant! highly skillful Man. I would of loved to have spent a year with him learning.

He deserves a Doctorate, a Knighthood and a Noble peace prize...for his excellence and command of "living" in the real world. What a champion and an inspiration.

    Ross.

Re: Alone in the Wilderness (2005)

When I first saw this documentary years ago, I was completely captivated. I was watching human life that was much closer to the way it was meant to be, very much in harmony with Nature, and far removed from the artificial human life I had always known. In that wilderness life, humans were ingenious, adaptable, resourceful, thrifty, generous, thankful, modest, and most of all, satisfied. It is a lesson I've not forgotten.

yeah,I have lived with Sadhus in caves in the himalayas for sometimes months at a time...we lived almost completely from nature.A whole new world opens up for you ...I still prefer this one though,I have lots of nature and access to many others "human nature" creations also..it allows other things to open up for us .

Re: Alone in the Wilderness (2005)

this is how it ought to be. you know, i live in a big city, in a two bedroom apartment on my own, cut off from nature. its desolate. not how life i supposed to be.

been trying to get back to the roots, got rid of my home computer, been stocking up on natural remedies. that's what we gotta do though. get back to the beings we were created to be in nature.
