I think it'd be a good idea to look at things we can do to raise funds independently from donations. We have plenty of skills and experiences between us. Maybe we could look at creating saleable products like books and audiobooks? Kindle is offering 70% royalties at the moment so it's making me think about starting to write a few ebooks myself. I don't know what their audiobook deal is through audible but I assume it's similar but the production costs are obviously a lot higher. Or what about a Nexus album from our musical members, sold through iTunes?

It'd allow those of us without spare cash to donate sweat equity instead?

One thing that I learnt from working with charities is that when you do things for free, people don't value them, take them for granted then attack you when you eventually need funding to continue. If we want the forum and community to grow then that's going to cost money. Aslong as we're honest and honourable in how we create that money then I think we'll do ok.

Aslong as access to the forum, membership and now the radio shows remains free and anything beyond that is purely optional, I can't see any genuine grounds for complaint. Let's say that 12 members all contributed one chapter to an ebook on member's experiences or their own favourite subjects, to create a decent sized introduction to the alternative community for newcomers or just the general public and it was offered for sale at say, ?5 on Kindle, that's ?3.50 per sale going towards running costs. 1,000 copies is a years hosting (allowing for tax/accountants taking some). There's nothing dishonourable in that aslong as each chapter is given willingly as a donation of sweat equity and on the understanding that the money does actually go to server costs and not holidays and booze for mods.

The bottom line is that without income there can be no growth or long term security so ultimately we have no choice. The choice we do have is how we operate in terms of transparency and the money going where it's meant to.

Icke charges ?3 a month for a newsletter and close to ?100 for an 8 hour lecture that is entirely based on other people's work and he has google ads on his site. Noone complains. Kerry and Bill take donations to fund them travelling the world and noone complains. That blonde guy who's name I always forget ("I am not edgar cayce, stfu!" guy) is making a good living from his books and again gets to travel the world as a speaker. That laura what's her face talks to the aliens has more books out than most mainstream authors and splits them in to volumes to squeeze more cash out of her followers. Again, noone complains. All of which are overtly commercial operations making money from our interest and desire for knowledge and personal growth. What do they give back? A few videos now and then.

On the other side you have Red Ice charging 5 euros a month for the second half of their interviews and entire back catalogue but letting you get the first half free and not suing people who put the full thing on youtube. Tsarion has just switched to Kindle only publishing and halved the price of his books to reflect his lower costs, so it can be done with honour and respect to the wider aims of the alternative community.

I'd draw the line at Nexus Tshirts and Mousemats though, that might be going a bit far.

Harmony is the highest natural state, so anyone opposing it must fail.

    - you go to school = $
    - you go to the university = $
    - you take evening course = $
    - you take culinary course = $
    - almost everything you want to learn = $

ON this Forum, you learn to be awake, you learn to use discernment, you are witnessing great debate, some greater than others but interesting nevertheless, learning every step of the way.

The survival of this platform, which we should call our digital home, depend on all of us, to stay up and running.
The server fees are only to keep the engine running, we need back up system, servers, UPS, maybe a bigger bandwith, at one point we will need to consider having people handling stuff on a more permanent basis and yes, it cost money.

We are 1000 members, in an ideal scenario everyone should contribute 25$ per year minimum to help maintain and grow Nexus.
but it does not work like that.
Nexus has been operating on a shoe string budget since his creation, i think that the need for this platform has been proven now, it's time that "we" invest a bit of $ in our own "digital home".
Congratulation to the team on what has been achieved so far.

It's called Support, Donation, Help, cause no money will be ask from the ones who has initiated this project. Is it a question of principle? maybe, but i don't care.
I'm a member and i want to see this digital community thrive and expand.

I, for one, would love to see Nexus add some features & projects...:

    - How about a Nexus web radio?
    - I would love to listen to interviews, music, re-broadcasts from a simple button on the Forum.
    - Live Forum debate with a few members.
    - Creation of a suggestion group made of members.
    - Expansion, mean new Mods to be trained.

We need all the help we can get.
To all the members, please, hit the button at least once this year!
To all the guest and visitors, get on board! we want your opinions and ideas and YES come and hit the button as well.
Believe it or not, most of the activities on here are directed to you.

Let me put it this way, when i click the button Nexus is not getting the donation, WE are!

It is only with the participation of members and a willingness to accept eachother as we are, that we have been able to grow and learn together.

You posted this at the begining of the year. The idea of a radio broadcast for the community has been round since AV1 (PA- before it moved to PA-2)...

So here we are with a radio show..

Richard has found the software and has been futsing with it for a couple weeks now.

There are many ideas floating around in support of a 24/7 broads cast..

    News.. Entertainment.. Education.. Spirituality.. Health..

The one thing we all agree on.. is no advertising. Any "commercials" would need to be focussed on offering the community a service, not asking them to buy something.

We do not have at this time a computer that could run all the software required simultaneously.

    A dedicated Broadcasting station?
    24/7 ?

I like the initiative and i can only see benefits for nexus members and community... Netizen.... you should put a trademark on this!
A live 30 minutes daily show discussing the thread of the day?
    A weekend roundtable?

I'm donating a few buck for that, sure.
There are many talented people in here, it will be a success!

    God speed!

Hi Bleach, as synchronicity would have it just this morning I went to the post office to enquire as to how to send money to Canada, as I don't have paypal or credit card.
I was told that I can send an international money order, all I need is the accurate address. The cost for the service here in Italy is about ?5. The recipient then goes to their post office to cash the order. The second option is a money-gram whereby you are given a code. You must possess the phone number of the person to whom you want to send money to. You then telephone the recipient, give them the code and with this code they can go and cash the moneygram at their nearest designated office. The cost for this is more expensive at about ?9.

    Hope this helps.

So far we have generated 120$ in donations directly for the new NeXus computer.

Richard says we can get something ok for $300.. and something really good for 500$

    Thank you everyone..!!

So far we have 120$ confirmed for the computer

You can put in a note to the merchant if you wish to add to the computer fund versus helping to pay for the servers etc.

Richard will put up information soon on what he feels would be the right system, including price etc.

up to 280$ with more waiting to be confirmed

Thank you for supporting Nexus projects. Your time, ideas and presence are the foundation of the investment that has created NeXus.

    Hi every Nexian out there!

Just thought that i should bring back this thread in the actuality.
We all agree that it has been hard in here in more than one occasion this year and it's the least we can say.
But the point is that we're still here and although it's in a more limited way, membership is always growing and new members are getting onboard.
That's just to say that we have lots of interesting topics, category and subject to read and learn from.

As a community, we need to keep this platform going.
Let's hit this donation button even if it is for a few dollars.
A few dollars can go a long way to help the people and hardware in place.

It's your home as well, time to participate, roll up your sleeves and contribute any way you can.
Post something, create a thread, add your music video, anything will be fine.

    -Robert

We are 1000 members, in an ideal scenario everyone should contribute 25$ per year minimum to help maintain and grow Nexus.
but it does not work like that.
Nexus has been operating on a shoe string budget since its creation, i think that the need for this platform has been proven now, it's time that "we" invest a bit of $ in our own "digital home".
Congratulations to the team on what has been achieved so far.

It's called Support, Donation, Help, because no money will be asked for from the ones who have initiated this project.
Is it a question of principle? maybe, but i don't care.
I'm a member and i want to see this digital community thrive and expand.

I, for one, would love to see Nexus add some features & projects...:

    - How about a 24/7 Nexus web radio?

Re: Support, Donation, Help, delicate subject but essential for the "Ongoing Mission"

Just want to push it back on the actuality post.

I understand that moving this forum to a new server helped in lowering cost of operation.
But it also mean that support for this forum was lacking.

I think that donation should continue so that Nexus can expand back someday.

Somehow, it's our livingroom and we need to make sure that it's there and open for people to come when they need to.

Just thought that i should share this with you all.

Wish you all a great week.

    Robert

PS.: Donation button is this way if you're looking for it:
