I don't think this guy is for real. Could this be another psyop--he is telling us that if we would only stop THINKING, 2012 will be wonderful, fantastic--ENLIGHTENMENT. But if we keep thinking it will be depressing and horrendous, These guys are like coming out of the woodwork. And the stage props like the gigantic chair, looks like a set up to me...............

Do thoughts have mass?
A very interesting Q's and one that has been pondered, particularly from Organizations like The Institute of Noetic Sciences located in Northern California. They have been focused on advancing the science of consciousness and human experience since 1973.

AND:Science dictates that everything must obey the physical laws in order to exist. This means that everything in the physical world must have mass and occupy space. So, if you say, thoughts have no mass, you don't consider them as part of the physical world, but belong to a kind of "thought world", or "world of ideas" like Plato believed. Indeed, you are embracing what is known in philosophy of the mind as 'dualism'. This means that there exists a solid world of objects and things of mass and space, and a parallel world where there are 'things' without these properties, like thoughts and emotions. Rene Descartes was the most prominent representative of this view.
Now, considering thoughts are manufactured in the physical brain suggests that these thoughts must have physical properties themselves. Otherwise you would have to explain how a physical substance like the brain can produce something non-physical.
Moreover, according to neuroscience, thoughts are produced by the concerted workings of distributed networks within the brain. The chemical substances that nerve endings use in order to communitcate with each other have, indeed, a certain mass and occupy space, making them part of the physical world. This view is known as materialism.
I would say, thoughts do have mass.
AND:interesting question. Research from MRI scans and brain dissections shows that thoughts are formed from chemical impulses moving along neurons in the brain and neurotransmitters moving between neurons. Since movement is energy and energy has mass then thoughts have mass. But the mass would be so extremely tiny it would be almost impossible to measure.
I have followed the Institute of Noetic Sciences and even became a member because I find their work so fascinating. Since thoughts can affect outcomes (the observer changes the observation), then they likely have mass. However, finding evidence for that is going to be challenging. If something with such tangible effects as gravity cannot be shown to have mass, then I don't think thoughts stand much of a chance.
Very interesting topic, above and beyond the Guru sitting in a very large chair...

Anyone with worthy insights to share shouldn't need, or even want elaborate stage props and costumes. That couch is just too much.

Well I played it all but I was doing something else, so really wasn't paying full attention.
Pillar, the idea that our thoughts/mind should be ignored is what we are shown in spirituality. I would not expect, however, a teacher to be talking to his students about some point in the future. The future is a mind projection and 2012 is a projection based on fear, so I would not be rushing for guidance from this man.

he is right here there will be less food available this yr they are already talking about a shortage in corn seed being available this spring and just look at the number of products that has corn by products in it almost everything

Thanks Jeanette, for your thoughts--and everyone else, too. I know a lot of what he says makes sense spiritually--and I find myself liking the guy. But I am very suspicious of someone telling us to basically go to sleep and do nothing and everything will be ok........because that suits "their" agenda so well.....
With all the gurus and with people's need to believe.....but maybe he's right!
And that is very interesting what you posted about thoughts having mass, Ross......Food for thought indeed.

i could only listen too the guy for 11 minutes .. the fingerprint of the guy talking stresses how important he thinks he is ..and how important to you he think he should be ..
so he wants you to stop thinking ..how much money does he want you to send him to teach you to master not thinking..
what bunk ..that is like telling people they are wrong for wanting stuff..we ;ive in a universe created by thought and a world of material things..
we create the world we experience with our dominant thoughts and we filter what we experience through the beliefs we hold..so spiritually our work is to pay attention to what thoughts stick and dominate enough to get an emotional response..and wonder what the beliefs we hold do for us ..and if they serve us.
they have spent thousand of years encouraging people to think negative thoughts and accept beliefs that really don't serve them ..using platforms of kings and chosen spiritual leaders. to tell us what we should believe.. and think.
so here we have another self important guy trying to convince people to do something that just leads to failure and more negativity in a personsons life. "omg i am thinking again i am such a misserable failure and i am doomed"

As a disciple of Paramahamsa Nithyananda, wanted to express some understanding:
1. He does not say to 'stop thinking', He is saying to 'think less and act more'. Let efficient action not be hindered by unnecessary thinking. The techniques, Yoga and Meditation, are designed with the only purpose of reaching that space of thinking less and acting more.
2. He has repeatedly said there is no natural calamity, which is easy to predict if anyone wanted to strike fear. To paraphrase, He has said - thoughts are going to reduce without any effort from you. Be used to that space by practicing meditation so you are not confused when it happens. (thought is matter equivalent, physiological changes that come about in 2012 will impact our thoughts - we will have less thoughts)
3. He does not say to 'go to sleep and do nothing' - it would be the most difficult thing to do, actually. He has said to pick a technique, like Meditation to get used to being in the space of lesser thoughts
4. "Depressing, Horrendous" - that would be the state of confusion if the physiology around us changed, but we are not settled or have come to terms with it inside.
5. thought/mind are not to be 'ignored', but rather used at our discretion.
6. Not a Guru in a high chair, but Noetic scientists think 'thought has mass'. And scientists never go wrong, right? but if we have less thoughts, we should weigh less too because of the mass. Basically the Guru in the high chair has said, 1) thought has mass 2) In 2012, thoughts will reduce 3) we will weigh less.
Scientists have caught up with (1) By the time they catch up with (2) 2012 may be gone. Just saying
7. "omg i am thinking again i am such a misserable failure and i am doomed" - is only one possible take away from listening to His discourse. Or someone could be inspired to try a meditation. Its possible
8. the scandal! enough has been said already. Now the perpetrators of the morphed video are in jail. (Sun TV COO Saxena).
Isnt it curious that somehow scandals are built around Gurus and they try to debunk them? time and again. Same old story.
