Cork City Council announces €450,000 for 2022 Sports Capital Grant Scheme

Cork City Council’s long-standing support for sports clubs and organizations continues with the approval of €450,000 in sports capital grants for 2022. The council recognizes that these clubs, run by volunteers, are essential to maintaining of a dynamic and sustainable sports sector. The grant program provides funds for projects that are directly related to improving facilities or purchasing equipment.

Announcing this year’s grants, Adrienne Rodgers, Director of Services for Cork City Council, said:

The past few years have been difficult, so sports clubs and organizations are even more vital to people’s health and well-being. With the Capital Grants Scheme, we are delighted to play our part in the continued development of sports facilities throughout the city.

Over the years, this program has helped all types of clubs and organizations, from soccer and rowing to athletics and taekwondo. When the 2021 program was announced, nearly 100 applications were received. This ongoing financial support provided by the Board greatly assists clubs and provides benefits to the wider community.

Capital grants are not intended as an alternative to other sources of funding, but complement other schemes, helping to reinforce local contributions or assisting with funding where certain work is not covered by other schemes of grants. They make it possible to carry out small investment works for the development of premises, grounds, etc., as well as the financing of non-personal sports equipment which will be used for at least five years.

Sports clubs and organizations can find more information and apply for a grant online at Sports Capital Grants – Cork City Council. If you have any questions, contact the Sports and Sustainability Section of Cork City Council on [email protected] or call 021-238 9853.
