The Elizabethtown girls’ swim program posted high marks on the final day of the Kentucky High School Athletic Association State Swimming and Diving Championships in Lexington on Saturday night.
Competing at the University of Kentucky’s Lancaster Aquatic Center, the Lady Panthers returned home with a fifth-place finish out of 39 teams and 139 points overall. Sacred Heart Academy won the state tag team title with a total score of 347 for first place.
Elizabethtown posted several individual top-eight finishes en route to fifth place, starting with an eighth-place finish by Sydney Braeger in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:58.37.
Kate Braeger and Micaela Godfrey followed in the 200-yard individual medley, with Braeger taking third in 2:05.43 and Godfrey placing seventh in 2:07.92.
Sydney Braeger added a seventh-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 56.78 seconds, just ahead of eighth-place Lauren Godfrey in 56.87 seconds in the same event.
Micaela Godfrey notched another seventh-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle final, clocking 5:10.86.
The Lady Panthers closed out their evening with a pair of relay events. The 200 freestyle relay team of Lauren Godfrey, Caroline Godfrey, Micaela Godfrey and Sydney Braeger took sixth place with a time of 1:40.59. The 400-yard freestyle relay team of Lauren Godfrey, Micaela Godfrey, Kate Breager and Sydney Braeger added a fourth-place finish in 3:33.89 in the final event of the evening.
