Newport swimmers start a busy season | Sports

ALBANY — Newport’s swim team finished seventh out of 17 participating programs June 3-5 at the AAA Summer Blast meet, hosted by the Albany Aquatics Association.

Swimmers from the Newport club have won first-place medals in 13 races, won six second-place finishes and swept the top three spots in the boys’ 13-14 200-meter medley – Ben Hurty placed first , followed by teammates Jahan Eibner and Will Wait.

Hurty and Gwynn Postlewait each won three events, and Jay Eibner, Jahan Eibner and Skyla Chen each won two races for NST, Mile Pettis also won an individual event for Newport, while Hurty, Jahan Eibner, Postlewait and Pettis did team to win the Relay 400 QN ages 11-4 boys.

Out of a total of 67 races, ÉNS athletes recorded 43 personal bests. Jahan (13) and Jay (9) Eibner each posted Oregon State Swimming Championship qualifying times in three events, and Pettis notched an OSI B time in the 11-12 age group. boys 50 freestyle. Newport swimmers Sam Postlewait, Connor Brown, Peter Perucci and Ivan Farias set an NST club record in the boys 15+ 400m medley relay. Other NST athletes who competed included Ilana Brown, Claire Hurty, Ana Kaldy, Ruby Perucci and Levi Pettis.

Next on the NST schedule, 11 club members are scheduled to race from today (Friday) through Sunday in the Mike Morris Invitational at the Amazon Pool in Eugene.
