Vulcan Challenge 2022 will run from August 22 to September 19 with the goal of raising $75,000 for immediate support to uh Hilo student-athletes.
Last year’s inaugural race lasted over three months and raised $223,500 to support Vulcan Athletics, surpassing the $200,000 goal.
“Our student-athletes are achieving in the classroom at record levels and represent uh Hello, the state of Hawaii and our community on the courts and playing fields with great pride and success,” uh Hilo Sports Director Pat Guillen said. “But with success comes even more challenges, as we not only want to maintain our success, but also keep improving every day. To do this, I humbly ask for your continued support so that we can continue to represent uh Hilo and our great community while providing our student-athletes with the best educational and athletic experience possible. Mahalo!”
Donors can select a sport-specific program or choose to support the Athletic Director’s General Fund, which will help meet urgent needs for essential services. Donations may also be used to support Vulcan Athletics sports medicine.
Digital payment methods via PayPal, Apple Pay and Venmo are accepted.
“We have just completed one of the best overall years in recent memory and a huge part of this success is due to our amazing community,” Guillen said. “We are truly grateful for the support of our local business community, boosters, fans, parents, teachers, staff and our senior management here at uh Hi.
This fall, the Vulcans will host their first home games on campus on uh Hilo’s new turf football field, marking the completion of the campus athletics facility renovation project that included a redeveloped softball field, resurfaced tennis courts and the addition of a multi-purpose building for concessions , bathrooms, team rooms and more.
